Not sure what class to enter, or what is required? This page is for you!
Halter Haflingers will be shown on the 'triangle' They will enter the ring and line up according to the ring man. One at a time, when the judge says, each exhibitor will walk their horse to the judge and stand for inspection. After the inspection, you will trot on the triangle, away from the judge, across from the judge, and then back to the judge, and set up again. To 'set up' the horse, all four legs ideally should be square or with the hind legs slightly staggered.. The diagram below shows the layout of the triangle.
A Halter class is on the horse's conformation and movement, not on the handler. Showmanship Showmanship is also a halter class, however this class is judged on the person's ability to show their horse the best. Conformation of the horse does not play a role in this class. A pattern is generally used, having the horse walk/trot, stop, back and sometimes pivot or turn. The handler is to have the horse perform the asked pattern smoothly. Setting the horse up quickly and with little effort, and paying attention to the judge. The 'Green as Grass' showmanship class is for adults who have little experience showing horses in hand, and wish to gain more knowledge and experience in front of a judge who will offer helpful advice.
In Hand Trail two years and under This class is offered for young horses (weanlings, yearlings, and two year olds) and is a set up obstacle course. Varies objects will be used and the horse and handler are to do the course according to the pattern set up. Anything from walking over logs, through 'water' (which can be real water, or fake) backing through cones, trotting at a specific point. Setting the horse up, walking up to a mail box. Anything that a horse may encounter in a normal training session around the farm, or out in the open, just while being led instead of ridden. Points are accumulated by the horse's ability to handle each situation of going over, around, and through the obstacles, with severe hesitation and refusals to do a obstacle being marked against them. The highest scores are the top placings. This class is great exposure for young horses, and fun for the owners to practice at home with things found out on the trail, or around the farm! Ridden Trail Just as the name implies, the horse is required to do a pattern of obstacles while being ridden that the horse and rider may encounter while on the trail. Opening and closing a gate while mounted, walking or trotting over logs, crossing a bridge, turning in a tight place, backing in a area, are examples of what could be in the pattern. Points are accumulated by the horse's ability to handle each situation of going over, around, and through the obstacles, with severe hesitation and refusals to do a object being marked against them. The highest scores are the top placings.

The bridle and lines must stay on the horse until they horse is unhooked and harness is taken off! If the bridle and/or lines are removed before this, immediate disqualification will occur!
